EnergyBot - the Helpful Energy Supplier Helper!

I'll keep it brief: I rarely endorse things, but I'm still enjoying how the free online service EnergyBot have handled one thing in my life:

Saving Money on Electric

If the clever name didn't give it away, this online 'Bot' helps you find the cheapest rates for Electricity (often cheaper than the default rates you'd get from your local supplier), and then handles switching providers seamlessly. They make shopping and comparing Electricity plans super easy! Obviously, this only works if your state lets you shop for suppliers. In Pennsylvania, we're obligated to.

Apologies as I don't recall where I found them, but EnergyBot helped me pick a new supplier about a year ago, with an incredible 7.2¢ per Kw rate. I was paying nearly 19¢ at the time, so this was a godsend just as the winter rolled around. As my annual contract came up for renewal in a few weeks, my supplier sent me the renewal contract, where I read I'd automatically start paying their usual (higher) 12.2¢ rate. So much for those early adopter savings! EnergyBot sent me a reminder email about the same time, and helped me switch suppliers in just a few clicks.

I know what you're thinking - That's not so special... Lots of services do that online. But EnergyBot remembers!

Let's say you sign up for an incredible low rate, but it's only good for an introductory three months? EnergyBot will email you just before your new plan expires to help you find the next great energy rate. No more automatically getting grandfathered into some terrible default rate just because you forgot the weird anniversary! This small but helpful behavior is greatly appreciated and the #1 reason why I'm raving about EnergyBot right now!

Good EnergyBot!

Having just signed up for an introductory six month rate that's even lower than my last rate, I can rest easy knowing EnergyBot is gonna remind me in a few months and continue helping me save money!

As if on marketing schedule, my previous supplier (unlinked, but you can read) has been dutifully mailing me updates on my account. Let's take a quick look at two mailings that happened a few days apart:

On the left is my new plan description, set to begin Sept. 15 (circled) with a rate of 12.19¢ per kwh. To the right is an update letter, sent TWO DAYS BEFORE my new start date with a price hike on the next month's service to 18.19¢ per kwh.

They can go suck a dick, amiright?

Too bad, EnergyBot already helped me find a new supplier, at 6.78¢ per kwh:

So much for company loyalty these days! Assuredly, if I raised my rates by 150% immediately after getting a signed contract, I'd never stay in business, right?
