Minutiae

  • The position is in our office in Philadelphia. No telecommuting.
  • Internships last between 10 and 12 weeks.
  • Coops are also available in the fall and spring semesters

At other companies, your internship would consist of being relegated to a dark corner of the office doing grunt work on a slow, outdated computer for most of the summer.

Not so at Under Design; We're a small design business, and we'll help you start your own small design business, too!

Sure, you'll have to do grunt work for us, like picking up supplies, light typing, maybe even working on current marketing projects for our customers. We may even stick you in a dark corner, but not to be mean.

But you'll also get your own design firm up and running with our free web hosting and domain registration. We'll walk you through the steps on how to design your new site, support it, and grow from there. We'll help you use inexpensive marketing tools, and how to implement them cheaply. We'll review doing business and the law and taxes (and how to work around it) along with growth strategies.

There's plenty of time to learn, too, as we'll set you up with a modern computer to work on, with industry standard software and blazing fast internet access. We're glad to teach you new design technologies (like HTML/CSS) or iPhone Development, or how to convert old designs into sellable products.

We're located in center city Philadelphia, a moments walk to all the nearby hotspots and cultural offerings. You can easily step out for a moment of inspiration in nearby Rittenhouse Square park, or simply grab some excellent coffee.

Our Street Cred

Under Design was founded in 1992, before the world wide web, before direct-to-plate printing, before WiFi. Having worked consistently through these revelations and discoveries, we have the experience to handle yesterdays, todays or tomorrow's technology and design challenge.

At the core, we are a design shop catering to the lifestyle and entertainment markets. We're about delivering our client's message, clearly and with some street-cred. We hand-build our image with our mix of aesthetics, house style, production ability and delivery media.

What Our Interns Can Expect

Our summer internship program allows talented college students to learn about the design industry from a small business owner in a major metropolitan city.

As a Summer Intern, you will be given a real project to work on that will ship as a part of one of our products. You will receive mentoring from the team at Under Design, and learn about the design industry from the experts.

You'll also develop your own company name, logo, website and email solutions to help you market to customers. We'll also give you free access to the soda vending machines and one meal a day on us.

Apply to be an Intern!

To apply, please email us at info at undr dot com, attaching a current resume in HTML, Word, Plain Text or PDF format. In the body of the email, tell me about yourself, what are you working on, what interests you, what are you looking to do with your career, how do you think an internship would help you achieve whatever goals you've outlined for yourself.

Workplace Diversity
